Hi all,
Time flies when you are having fun. This past month is the first time I have been able to finish all the goals I had set for myself. This was a mix of better estimation beforehand as well as being more efficient with time. I used to do all my work in the evenings but I have been trying to do work in the mornings now too. This makes it easier to meet my daily and weekly goals.
I opted not to tweak the king of the hill condition as I felt it was too confusing to try to explain to the player that they had to have an army on the hill. It might be something that we come back to, maybe after playtesting. Instead, I worked on a bug with the AI. This bug was way easier to work on with the new dev main menu. I can create a game state that matches what causes a particular bug and then troubleshoot it straight away instead of trying to replicate it.
I also put in a loading screen, so I can more efficiently load game assets as well as have the AI make their moves before the screen loads.
I am very close to being ready for a playtest which is still the main goal. This month will be for a general quality of life pass before showing some friends.
Things I got done in March:
- Finished the foundation of the tutorial system
- The main menu can be used to create a game with options
- A dev menu screen to choose custom game states\
- A loading screen that loads things in parallel
- Win condition summaries on the main UI with the option to hide/show
- Investigate an AI bug
Things I want to get done in April:
- QoL improvements. What would a player want to see/experience
- Pad out the tutorial system
- Bugfixes as they are found
Bonus goals
- Automated builds back up
- A feedback system
