Automation is king. Also art
Hi all,
October was a reasonably productive month. I smashed out a Jenkins server and can now automatically
- Build the game in as many export profiles as I want
- Upload the game to itch
- Build the game server
- Deploy the game server to a local box I have set up.
This was a lot of frustration but the satisfaction of achieving this and running the jobs is so huge.
Code wise I did a lot of small bits and pieces that made the overall feel a lot nicer. I also completely reworked how the AI works so I can easily construct new ai behaviors. I also think there might be a framework here to build something more universal for other games. This was also pretty long.
Art-wise I tried to draw my own. And although I knew I COULD achieve SOMETHING, it was never going to be of great quality and would really take me too long. So while trying to draw I kept looking for asset packs. I finally found some that are nearly perfect and have implemented most of the game with them. There are some assets missing but the packs I bought had guides on how to draw in that style as well as color choices etc which is pretty cool. The packs are from https://stevencolling.itch.io/
What's next:
By the end of this month I intend to:
- Have my first playtest session with a friend of mine
- Have a steam page up
- Publish the game's itch page
- Create/Update facebook page
- Update youtube channel
These goals have some tasks attached to them which is a considerable amount of work
- Quality of life (QOL) coding for a good playtest experience
- Multiplayer QOL coding
- Steam capsule art
- Trailer
- All the business admin (structure, accounts, legal advice etc)
